The inexpensive quartz watches and clocks you see everywhere today keep time far more accurately than the stately grandfather clocks of yesteryear. But the latter have a charm and presence that few modern time-keeping devices can match.
It is thought that the very first mechanical clocks were devised by European monks sometime during the 13th century. They didn’t have clock faces and hands to show the time. Instead, they struck a bell on the hour. So you couldn’t tell the time by looking at these early clocks!
Later, an hour hand was added. Small domestic clocks made an appearance during the first few decades of the 15th century. There used to be a device called a lantern clock, which was a weight-driven time piece, which made its way to upper class homes around that time.
The major breakthrough in clock design came about in 1582 when Galileo discovered that a pendulum has a fixed period and so could be used for timekeeping. However, he did not actually build a pendulum-based clock.
That task was accomplished by Christiaan Huygens in 1656. His design was a significant improvement over the earlier mechanical clocks, because it was accurate to within three minutes or so per day.
The early pendulum clocks had short pendulums. The movements were made of cast iron and the clocks hung on the wall. Subsequently, they were encased in wood to improve their looks.
Around 1660, clocks with longer pendulums were introduced by English clockmakers. In another decade, the anchor escapement was perfected by William Clement. Robert Hook introduced the 39.1 inch pendulum. Together, these developments led to the creation of the first grandfather clocks, which often stood a majestic 7 feet tall.
They weren’t called grandfather clocks, though. The early name was long case clocks or floor clocks. The term grandfather clock became popular only during the 1880s, after Henry Work wrote a song titled ‘Grandfather’s clock’.
Meanwhile, clock movements improved in design and manufacture. Long case clocks could keep time to within a few seconds variation per week. At this stage, a minute hand was added to clocks. With elaborately carved wood casings and the use of glass to highlight the clock face and pendulum, the grandfather clock evolved into an attractive timepiece.
In the early days, it cost a lot to produce long case clocks. They adorned mansions of royals and nobles. Production costs came down with time and other well-off households could afford them too.
It was in the 1680s that long case clocks first reached America. A few years later, they began to be produced in New England, Pennsylvania, Virginia and other places. In the 19th century, American clock making centers came up with brass movements, which cut costs significantly. That ended the dominance of the English as clock makers.
Grandfather clocks with their pendulum time-keepers can’t rival the precision or reliability of modern atomic clocks. But there’s something reassuringly solid and comforting about these time pieces of another era. One can safely predict that grandfather clocks will remain fixtures in connoisseurs’ living rooms for a long time to come.
Peter Strides is a connoisseur of clocks. He has written on grandfather clocks, the history of the pendulum clock, tips for setting up a grandfather clock and more.

Strolling through your favorite hardware or home improvement store can be a lesson in ingenuity and provide the average homeowner with a wealth of widgets, gadgets and products that can save time, trouble and money on your next repair project. Many small inexpensive items have been developed to assist the homeowner in completing their next project in record time. They range from small metal parts that are used to repair a hole in a wall or ceiling to painting and electrical troubleshooting. We will examine what is available to the homeowner of today so that they can put these time saving products to work and spend more time having fun instead of working all weekend!
Repairing Drywall
The Insta-Back clips are a clever little metal clip that is slipped into the edges of a hole in a gypsum board wall or ceiling, the repair panel is then put in place. Screws are used to secure the panel in place, the tabs are bent back and removed leaving the surface ready to patch with tape and spackle or drywall mud. They are inexpensive though worth many times over their cost in time savings alone. This product is made by Construction Materials and are found in most home improvement centers and hardware stores for around $2.09 to $3.00 for a package of six and come with screws right in the package.
Wet & Set repair patch manufactured by Hyde Tools is another hole patching tool and all you need to do is to cut the patch to size and dip the patch into a pail of warm water, let drip and apply to the wall. Then just let the patch dry for thirty minutes and cover with your favorite patch material. They are available in a 4×4 or 6×6 inch sizes and can be found at your local hardware or home improvement center, they retail for $4.49 to $5.99 each depending on size. These patches take a little longer than the Insta-Back clips but the advantage is you do not need a piece of drywall to fill the hole and they can be used on rounded surfaces.
Installing a Ceiling Fan
All fans are installed in a similar manner and rely on the utilitarian ceiling box for support of the fan during operation. Each manufacturer requires a fan-rated or reinforced ceiling box for their products to be installed safely. This is easer said than done! However there is a new product that is on the market that promises to alleviate the problems associated with this critical installation step. The FAN-EZE product installs through the existing ceiling box itself in 2 minutes or less and is installed with common hand tools. It comes with all the hardware right in the package and is made by EE Products Inc. This product allows the ceiling box to be able to carry loads that are above that of fan-rated ceiling boxes, and best of all it is consumer friendly. The cost of this time saving product is $3.60 each and will allow a ceiling fan to be installed in less than an hour from start to finish.
Adhesives
A new product has been developed and released to the general public that mimics what has been available to industry for the last 10 years with commercial grade adhesives. Simpson has released an epoxy product that mixes in the barrel as it is extruded from the nozzle. All you have to do is squeeze the trigger and position the adhesive as it exits the nozzle, that’s it. What is unique about this product is no special gun or fixture is required as the tube has been designed to fit in a standard caulking gun. The mess and bother that has plagued the two part epoxy systems is now a thing of the past. The Epoxy Tie system is available in a 1.7 and 10 fluid oz. sizes and retails for approximately $9.35 to $17.29 depending on which size you choose.
Not to be out done by anyone is 3M and their line up of ingenious no-mar type of adhesive solutions for applying hooks and other hardware to wall surfaces. These products are the Command Strips and allow the products to be placed on the wall and removed without leaving a residue, hole or mar of any kind to the wall surface. All that is needed to place the product is remove the protective adhesive strip cover and press it against the wall wherever you wish to hang that favorite painting or picture. What could be easier? To remove them slide the hook up and off of the anchor, then pull down on an elastic tab until the anchor is released. This product will be especially helpful to apartment dwellers that wish to decorate their apartments and are now free to express themselves without worrying about what the landlord will think when they move out. These products are available in a host of sizes and styles and retail for approximately $1.99 to $3.88 depending on size and configuration and can be found at most any hardware or home improvement center.
Super Glue Corporation has a patch material that can be used with practically any household material, plastic, metal, rubber, wood and fiberglass. This patch material is an adhesive patch that cures with sunlight or quicker with a cure lamp. You simply clean the area where the patch is to be installed and peel the adhesive cover off and press it into place. This patch would be handy to repair a hole in a gutter, or a garage door or even a skylight. The patch is a 6×3 inch sheet that retails for approximately $8.00. If your home improvement center or hardware store does not carry this brand there are other similar products on the market. Just read the label and make sure it is suitable for your intended application.
Frame Construction
For construction of a deck, an addition or maybe just a framing repair can be accelerated with the use of Simpson Strong Tie plates and brackets. The use of these stamped metal products increase the strength of the framing and are required for many framing tasks. The use of seismic or hurricane ties is required by just about all building codes across the country and are just a sample of what they manufacture. They make a myriad of products that are useful for just about any framing anchoring or connector need. These products will speed the completion of your next framing project so don’t hesitate to look at the selection you are bound to find a product that suits your need.
These products are usually found in larger home improvement centers, hardware stores and lumber yards. The cost for these components varies with the product so just take your time and find the right components for your project.
Cabinetry & Hardware Repairs
Today’s cabinets have been subjected to labor and cost cutting measures for several years. Much of the cabinet construction is now handled by hardware components, things like guides, rollers and stops are now metal and plastic where they were traditionally made from wood. So when that roller or guide breaks don’t forget to look at the cabinet hardware section of your favorite home improvement center for a replacement. Home depot has a large selection so make it your first stop when looking for these components.
For smaller brackets, tie plates and reinforcement products and cabinet hardware check out the products manufactured by Stanley. The have a long tradition of providing quality hardware and tools that stretches back to 1843. They also have a large selection of hinges, striker plates, door knockers and other hardware as well so you are bound to find that item you need. The selection and cost of these components varies with the product but all are reasonable and will save you time and trouble.
Electrical Repairs
Nothing strikes fear into the average homeowner like an electrical problem. The good news is that there are a host of products that make the troubleshooting easier for the average homeowner. Gardner Bender makes a line of circuit testing products for receptacles and ground fault interrupted outlets. All you have to do is pug the tester into the socket and read the light display on the tester. The testers have a chart right on them that will tell you what the problem is so you can decide if you wish to tackle the problem or call in an electrician. These testers retail for $5.99 to $7.98 depending on which model you choose and are an inexpensive first step before deciding to call in a pro. For the more skilled or adventuresome they also make a simple twin probe circuit tester, the neon light type that can be used to tell if a receptacle or circuit is hot (current present) and also if the polarity of the receptacle is correct. These simple twin probe testers can be bought for about $3.00 to $5.00 dollars each depending on features and are a bargain by any measure. Almost all hardware stores, home improvement centers or lumber yard will stock these items.
For those that wish to finish their basement, attic or are adding a room to their house may want to look at the products being offered by Carlon. They have a line of plastic nail-on outlet, ceiling and receptacle boxes that are easy to install and offer time savings over the conventional metal products. The added advantage to these products is that do not need to be grounded since they are plastic and insulate the electrical wires inside of the box itself. Outlet boxes are inexpensive and can be found for as little as 21 when on sale. For ceiling boxes they sell in the 98 to $1.10 range depending on size and features. Carlon is one of the largest of the box manufacturers so you can find their products just about anywhere where home improvement and lumber products are sold.
Porcelain Fixture Repair
The next time you drop that heavy object on you porcelain tub, sink or fixture and see that chip go flying off into the sunset, don’t despair Kit Industries with their Porc-a-Fix touch up glaze product has you covered. They have a large range of standard colors to choose from to match your sink or fixture and are applied by simply brushing the product on until the chip is filled. The standard colors retail for approximately $4.97 for a small bottle and are available in custom colors to match just about any need. Larger home improvement centers will carry these products but if you have trouble finding them just type porc-a-fix into your favorite search engine and a website that will serve your needs will pop up.
Painting
Is probably the most common home improvement project that homeowners will tackle? The good news is there are so many products that make it easier to paint your house than ever before. Foam Pro has a host of products that will make your job quicker and ease the clean-up afterwards. They have a whole range of disposable foam brushes and rollers and an ingenious new pour spout that clips on to the top of a one gallon can. This handy pour spout also has a brush edge to clean off your favorite brush since so many homeowners use the paint can as their paint bucket. This product sells for approximately 75 so include it with your next painting project.
The prep work prior to painting can be one of the most tedious chores about this type of project, cleaning the walls, patching the holes and cracks in walls seem endless. For holes Painters Nail Hole Filler has you covered, they manufacture a 4.5 fluid oz. squeeze tube of nail hole filler that you just place over the hole, squeeze and wipe away the excess in one easy motion. It retails for approximately $6.50 each. This product is sold at most of the home improvement centers and has the same name as the company.
Most of the walls and ceilings in peoples home today are textured from an orange peel to a knock down finish. Acoustic ceilings were popular some years ago but all of them pose a problem when a repair has been made and they lack the surface texturing. Matching the texture has been difficult in the past since it required commercial equipment to apply these surface finishes properly. Homax provides an easy solution to this problem with a line of finishes that span all of the popular textures of yesterday and today and are packaged in a convenient 10 or 12 fluid oz. spray can. These products are known collectively as Easy Touch and can be found in most all hardware and home centers. They retail for between $9.00 & $10.00 and are quick and inexpensive solution to this once difficult task.
Aqua-Tainer Co. is one of those companies that staked their future on offering inexpensive products that provide real value. Their products will make your next painting project easier, cleaner and quicker if you choose to make use of their of their various product offerings. One of the biggest mistakes the average homeowner makes when starting a painting project is using the one gallon paint can as a paint bucket when they start the cutting-in process. The bucket is heavy and exposes the paint to the air and starts the drying process right in the can even before much of the paint has been applied. It also contributes to fatigue having to carry this heavy container of paint around. The paint can does a very poor job of cutting off the excess paint on the brush so you should avoid making this mistake. They have very good solution for this problem with their Trim & Cut-In cup it holds about a pint of paint and has a cut-off edge made right into the cup. It is light enough so that holding the cup will produce little if any fatigue and if it is dropped only a small amount of paint is lost and will be much easier to clean up. This product retails for $1.98 on average. They also have another handy product with their P-38 five gallon bucket opener. It has been designed to open metal or plastic buckets and is a handy tool to use when you are handling these size containers. The best part is that it sells for only $3.97 and will save you the hassle of wrestling with opening these containers so the cost is more than worth it.
If the last two products were not enough they make a product called Carpet Shields each package comes with six three foot pieces for eighteen feet total of reusable shields. They are a masking strip that is inserted between the carpeting and the wall and protects the carpet and moldings from paint splatter or an over zealous paint brush. They retail for an unbelievable low price of only $2.87 for all six pieces. Buy several and be done with it, again most of the major home centers and hardware stores will carry these products.
I hope this stroll through your favorite home improvement center has been useful and informative. I have learned of many of these products through trial and error through the years and I find myself prowling the aisles of home centers just to stay abreast of the latest offerings. The advantage of using many of these low cost items is the time and hassle you save which relate to a less stressful project which can sometimes make the difference between success and failure.

These cabinets have become useful and most of them have been used as décor in bathrooms. Basically its uses are for storage of toiletries, towels and all necessary essentials that you find in bathrooms. There are a wide range of cabinets available today and these are furniture cabinets made from expensive material such as mahogany which is specially treated to avoid moisture absorption. Some of the cabinets are made from glass and mirror glass and bathroom cabinets have been designed so as to beautify the bathroom. Basically these cabinets are used to keep bathroom essentials and also they make the place look presentable such that you will not find things lying around all over. Imagine if you are to get into a bathroom and you find no tissues the next place you would think of is the cabinet.
I think that these cabinets are very essential as they tend to place things orderly. Definitely in a bathroom a lot of mess occurs and when cleaning up various tools have to be used and should be made available at a glance. Some of these cabinets are movable and some people are purchasing stylish designs so as to create a beautiful area in their bathroom. Generally I would recommend every bathroom to have a cabinet in order for all essentials to be placed at one area.

Do it yourself concrete staining is the cheapest and easiest way to enhance the appearance of your concrete surfaces. The alternatives, tearing out existing concrete and replacing with new or decorative overlays, are not recommended for do-it-yourselfers and can be very expensive. But before you begin your staining project there are a few things you need to know.
There are two types of concrete stains to choose from, acid stains and acrylic stains. Acid stains work by chemically reacting with free lime in the surface to produce a natural looking, translucent color. They create a mottled, variegated, multi-hued coloring. Every concrete surface reacts differently to acids stains making each job unique. Acrylic stains are waterborne and have pigments that seep into the pores and adhere to the concrete, therefore creating a more consistent, semi translucent color like that of a dye. Acrylic stains will help mask imperfections and discolorations whereas acid stains actually accentuate them.
For many surfaces, acid and acrylic stains will work equally as well, but which one you choose depends on the look you want. However, there are situations where one type will work better than the other. For older, exterior concrete (more than 15-20 yrs old) acid stains may not work because much of the free lime has leeched away. Acrylic stains are great for old concrete because of its increased porosity over time. Acid stains work well with newer concrete because of the availability of free lime. If repairs need to be made such as patching pop outs or scaling, then acrylics may be the better choice to help disguise the repairs. Any patching materials will stand out with acid stains. For smooth trowelled interior surfaces with less porosity, acid stains are usually better because they don’t require as much penetration to color the concrete.
Before beginning it’s also important to have realistic expectations. Staining can turn dull, gray concrete into a beautiful and colorful finish, but it’s impossible to know exactly how the finished product will look, especially with acid stains. Every concrete surface is different and so will accept stains differently. The exact same stain will have two different appearances with two different slabs. Even seasoned pros can’t predict the exact outcome of a staining job. For this reason, it’s not a good idea to try to exactly match the color of concrete to anything else such as brick or siding. There’s a very good chance you won’t be successful. Instead, choose a complimentary color or shade for your concrete. For instance, if you have light brown siding, then choose a dark brown stain.
The most critical part of staining is preparation. Take time in deciding how you want your concrete to look and getting the surface ready to apply the stain. You get one shot at getting it right unless you want to do a major overhaul to the surface. Do it yourself concrete staining is not a difficult process but does require an honest effort to be satisfied your finished product.

New floors can update or completely change the mood and ambience
of any room. The popular decorating magazines are stocked with
glossy pages of rooms with beautiful floors of wood, stone, tile
and ceramic. But, you’re thinking, those beautiful natural
materials are so expensive!
Welcome to the world of laminate floors.
Laminates are an affordable alternative to hardwood, stone or
tiled floors. Laminate floors are made by embedding a high
quality photograph of wood, stone or another pattern between a
subsurface and a transparent layer of melamine or cellulose. The
subsurface is generally several layers thick, and gives the
flooring strength, body and stability. The top surface is
usually buffed to a high, hard gloss that resists scratching and
marring, and stands up to years of wear and tear in a way that
wood or stone can’t. It’s the middle layer - the actual image -
that makes these floors wear like iron. Unlike most other floors
that only have the image on the surface, the image layer of a
good quality laminate floor is several millimeters thick - and
the image goes clear through it. You can find laminate floors in
a wide variety of styles and patterns that mimic nearly any
other surface you can imagine.
A well-made laminate floor can be practically indistinguishable
from marble, teak, oak or other far more expensive surfaces -
but they offer advantages that non-laminated floors can’t give
you.
Versatility Want a wood floor in your bathroom, or your high
traffic family room, but the experts have told you it’s a no-no?
A wood laminate floor can give you the look that you want
without the worry. Because wood laminates have a moisture
resistant finish, they won’t be damaged by those steamy showers
that you love. They also won’t expand and contract the way that
wood does, so you don’t have to worry about giving your floors
‘ease’ room. As for that family room? A laminate floor will
stand up to the punishment that your kids can give it - even
those skateboard races that you don’t allow.
Easy Care Have you read the care instructions for real hardwood
floors? Buffing, oiling, waxing, polishing and finishing - you
could spend half your life keeping your wood floor looking good.
Stone floors are almost as bad - ask any janitor in a public
building about the daily polishing that marble floors require.
Not your laminate floor. Just sweep them regularly to keep dirty
grit off of them, damp mop them to pick up any spills and their
beautiful shine will last for years.
Allergen and Odor Resistant One of the most often quoted reasons
for replacing your wall to wall carpets with wood or stone
floors is to get rid of allergens and odors that cling to the
fibers. Laminate floors are odor resistant, and don’t give dust
mites a place to breed. And unlike wood and stone, they don’t
require hours and hours of buffing and polishing to keep them
looking good.
Easy Repair Accidents do happen. If something damages your wood
or stone floor, replacing one section can be a major
undertaking. Repairing a laminate floor is usually as easy as
removing and replacing the damaged plank or tile.
Easy to Install Installing a new stone or hardwood floor is not
a do-it-yourself project. It requires expertise and know-how
that most homeowners don’t have. Laminate floors, on the other
hand, are nearly as easy to install as place and press tiles -
and they look a whole lot better.
Durable Wood laminate veneers stand up to the kind of wear that
would leave wood floors covered with nicks and scratches. The
high impact finish will tolerate the worst that your family can
dish out without showing the wear. Your new laminate floor will
still have a beautiful gloss years after wood floors need
refinishing.
Design Tips and Tricks If you specifically want a floor with the
look and feel of natural wood, you also have a third option that
falls between hardwood floors and one of laminated wood -
engineered wood floors. Strictly speaking, engineered wood
floors are a sub-type of laminate floors. Engineered wood is
made of several wafer thin layers of wood set at cross grain and
compressed under high pressure. It may also be impregnated with
acrylic to make it more durable. Engineered wood floors are more
expensive than other laminates, but less expensive than solid
wood flooring. They’re an excellent choice if the look that you
want includes parquet borders and insets.

It doesn’t matter if you live in a hot climate or the North woods; there are many days when the breeze isn’t blowing and you would like the air to circulate for comfort. Running central air conditioning is expensive and isn’t always called for. We automatically feel cooler just from the evaporation against our skin when a slight breeze is blowing. Energy costs are high enough so why not consider ceiling fans for your rooms? You get the circulation you need and a great look at the same time. Because they are hanging from the ceiling, they’re out of the way. You don’t have anything to walk around or trip over. They also save you money in the winter time. You can adjust the switch to rotate the blades in the opposite direction, causing a downdraft, circulating the warm air from the furnace. Most of the models have more than one speed so you can control the amount of air movement you want. A ceiling fan looks great in any room and can eliminate the need for air conditioning. If you have low ceilings, don’t worry about it. There are hugger styles that only come down a few inches from the ceiling. If you need to drop a fan from a cathedral height, you can find that as well. No matter how much clearance you have, you will be able to find a style for your needs.
The size of the room will determine the size of fan blades you will need. For example, if you want a fan for a bedroom, purchase a fan with 36-inch fan blades. One of my bedrooms was very small but I didn’t have central air and I needed circulation at night to sleep. I had to find a very small ceiling fan to accommodate the room size. This was no trouble and worked exactly as I hoped it would. On the other hand, if you want a fan for your family room, the size of the fan blades would be different. This type of room would probably take a 48 or 56 inch fan blade. Two fans would probably be used in a room that is longer than 19 feet. This is only a guideline, use your judgment of what would look right for your home.
A ceiling fan is usually installed in the center of a room so it can become the focal point. You might choose a fan that is modern and contemporary in black or red enamel. What about a fan that is plain white so it will blend into the ceiling, or customize it by stenciling a design to match your décor? These fans are nice for your child’s room as well. There are such cute styles available such as airplanes, soccer balls and baseballs for lighting, nursery rhyme themes, primary colors for blades and so much more. If you want a fan in the lanai or sunroom, what about a tropical style? The fan blades could be sail cloth, or wicker in natural, white, black or they could look like actual leaves. The palm blades could even be attached to the fan much like track lighting. They don’t have to be in a circular pattern. This would give you more versatility in the room. You may want this style outdoors on the patio. Many of the styles available are coded for outdoor use. Just check with the instructions and the manufacturer before installing a ceiling fan outside. You want to be sure they are protected from the elements and that they are specific for outdoor use. Another contemporary style is one where the motor is globular and there are fan blades that rotate around it such as a satellite would orbit the earth. It doesn’t matter if you have a Victorian style home or contemporary, log home or ranch, you can find any style you can imagine for your rooms. It will look great, enhance the theme and circulate the air saving you money at the same time. Some of the name brands you may or may not recognize. You can find a ceiling fan to fit every budget. Be aware that a really inexpensive ceiling fan may be a little noisier. It is nice to have them do their work, but you don’t want to hear a squeaky motor running either.
When you install a ceiling fan in your home, you have just accomplished an economical makeover, helped lower your energy costs in winter and summer and put in a piece of air cooling equipment that will work with the air conditioner for even more efficiency. That’s a really good decision.

Quick Housecleaning Tips for your Home By Fayola Peters
Ah Yes! The house is a mess…again! Why do I even bother
attempting the impossible? I’ll tell you why I do it. For one
thing, I don’t like living in a mess. Another reason is that
People tend to show up unexpectedly.
That last reason alone is enough to get me to make sure that the
path to the bathroom is cleared of rubble and that the bathroom
itself is clean with smells of Pine.
If your house is a mess… again, here are ten (10) house
cleaning tips to help you out.
1.Make a house cleaning schedule.
2.Survey each room in your home, look for the trouble spots and
decide on how you’re going to get them cleaned up. Here you can
decide what tools you’ll need, what can be thrown away or better
yet, who you can assign the task to.
3.Get help. Rome was not built in a day and I’m certain it
wasn’t built by one Roman. If there are others living and
breathing in the house with you, get them to help.

A Jacuzzi has been popular since the 40’s. We stopped taking the evening bath and are now taking more morning showers, but these wonderful whirlpool baths revolutionized the ways we relaxed and used our tubs. We feel better when we take a soak in a whirlpool bath because the swirling water is naturally calming and the bubbles offer therapeutic benefits. The bubbles stimulate the nerve endings just under the skin delivering more blood to the areas and we then feel warm and more relaxed. If you use these baths, you can carry away toxins in the muscles and reduce swelling and inflammation. You can’t always use your outdoor pools especially if you live in a winter climate so whirlpools can be used anywhere, anytime you feel like you need some extra muscle relaxation and stress relief. It wasn’t so long ago when Jacuzzis and whirlpools were only found in resorts, spas, mansions or bed and breakfasts. You had to leave your home and go on vacation to enjoy the soothing Jacuzzi’s jets in a bath. That is no longer the case. A whirlpool or spa of any kind is no longer a luxury item for the rich and famous.
You can create your own spa at home by selecting one of the choices available on the market today. Drop-in tubs can be placed into an elevated deck in your master bath, or you can find one of the built in models that are sunken into the floor. Darker colors will often cost more, and look rich. Basic jet action will target all areas of the back, but you can customize the position of the jets for your needs. The most common is the eyeball jet which delivers high pressure and low volume. You might want a rotating jet that can be positioned off position from the body. You can find specialty jets that stimulate the neck and lumbar areas. State of the art Jacuzzis feature a DVD player, flat screen TV, surround sound, underwater lighting, floating remote control and much more. Doesn’t that sound fabulous? This can all be yours in your own master bath. Is this a little too over the top? There are spas that are exactly in your price range. Before you buy, consider how you will use it, and how large you need it to be. Do you want it for soaking, relaxation, hydrotherapy or all of the above? Don’t let the stress of life get you down. You deserve the best in relaxation with fabulous Jacuzzis, whirlpools and baths.
If you want to concentrate on an investment for your home that is outdoors, consider a fiberglass pool, hot tub or inground pool or exercise pool. They increase the value of your home while giving you maximum enjoyment outside as well as inside.

During the year many people are stricken by illness and/or allergies. One great way to help you alleviate, or even avoid, these problems is by using a room humidifier. Humidifier health aspects are great and definitely worth trying.
Using a room humidifier allows a person to create a healthy home environment for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, and other sinus problems.
There are two kinds of humidifiers, warm and cool mist. Their health aspects include helping with problems that are associated with dry air such as dry skin, swollen nasal passages, sinus headaches, and asthma.
The use of a tabletop room humidifier can help to soothe a person’s nasal and respiratory passages when he/she has the flu or a sore throat. Portable units can also be used to provide relief to those who have asthma, dry skin, and/or dry eyes.
Adults are not the only ones to benefit from the use of room humidifiers. The health aspects of room humidifiers also greatly benefit children.
It is common for young children to suffer from 6 to 8 upper respiratory tract infections every year. By increasing air moisture in your home, and/or your child’s room, you can not only alleviate his/her symptoms, but can also help to prevent them all together.
When choosing a room humidifier for a child, be aware that a cool mist unit is recommended. Warm mist units can run a risk to accidental burns.
In order to keep your room humidifier in optimum working conditions, there are several things you must do to keep it free from mold, fungi, and bacteria that can be harmful to your health. By following the manufacturer’s instructions for care and cleaning you can make sure you keep your room humidifier safe.
Room humidifiers are most often used during the winter. In order to prevent the growth of mold, spores, and dust mites the level of humidity should be kept under 50%. The tank should be emptied, surfaces should be dried, and it should be refilled with clean water on a daily basis.
Instead of using tap water, which can contain minerals that my promote a germ-friendly film as well as scale build up, try using distilled or demineralised water.
Room humidifiers can be found in various stores and even on the internet. It is wise to do research before purchasing a unit to find which brand and type fit your needs.
One important thing to remember is that bringing your home’s humidity to the proper level can not only benefit you health-wise, but can also save you money each year. You will pay less for your heating bills when you feel warmer at a lower temperature. That means that everything in your home, from you plants to your pets to your furniture to your loved ones to you, can benefit from its results.
A room humidifier is a wonderful item to have for your home. Having your home properly humidified shouldn’t just be considered a luxury, but also a necessity.
